Can someone come up with a patch so I can put post-it notes on my
dashboard to remind me to carry out the above *before* I fly the
perfect line down an enemy runway in OCA missions ;-)

First thing I do even before taxiing is to switch master arm on, alter the
chaff/flare program to 4, ECM to auto and the commo frequencies to package
and proximity (for a quiet flight) and switch my lights off after take off.

Thanks for the tips Nats - how do you set chaff/flare program to 4?
Or should I just RTFM? ;-)

Well, that's the preferred method...but you could always just go into 2D
view ("2" ), move down once and once again to the left, and directly to
the left of the kneeboard, click the "PRGM" knob until it hits "4".

Try all the program settings by flying around releasing chaff/flares in a
test mission to see what they all do. I find program 4 is the best all
rounder and is useful to keep on in case you need flares in a hurry like if
you get that scary shoulder mounted IR missile launch after you. You could
possibly keep it on prog 1 if you are flight a CAP flight or similar and
stay high up away from IR SAMs but you never know when you might get a
sneaky plane behind you.
Oh yes and another thing I do before taxi is always set your
mavericks/alarms to power up. Similarly it can be useful to also switch your
laser director on if you are doing a GBU mission.
The more you do when its quiet the less there is to forget in the midst of
battle.
