I am looking for a really good modem that is compatible with XP Pro. I would like caller ID on the screen, etc. I cannot use DSL in my area so I need a 56K model. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Two brands spring to mind, Netcom 56k or verison 56k (local brand i think).

Basically you just go to a computer shop and check the back of the box to make sure it says win XP compatible and your set!

As far as modems go, I think the 5610A US Robotics is probably the "best" there is. Don't know about the caller ID thingie though but you can get an ID add on box from Best Buy for under $10. This modem is a "hardware" modem which makes it a little more expensive than a softmodem. Speaking of which, I've had very good success with soft modems using the Conexant chipset (Rockwell) and WinXP. WinXP even has drivers for this modem and they are very inexpensive. Can be bought through Pricewatch.com for about $15, shipped! The 5610A, on the other hand, will cost you close to a "C" note.
