hard drive detection

on startup, the Primary Master drive (a new 40 GB Western Digital HDD) is not detected. I have an ABIT AB-TX5 motherboard with an AMD K63D processor and am running Windows 98 SE. I had to use EZ-BIOS to get system to boot. Cold boot works fine, but warm boot hangs after detecting drives. Can anyone help me?

With the few details you have provided several things can be wrong.
How many drives are connected to the system? How are they placed on the cable? Master/single/slave etc. Do you use cable select?
Double check your jumpers.
Try another cable.

Yep, all that applies. In addition, never hurts to make sure that the mobo BIOS is up to date.

Edited: especially since your cold/warm boots behave differently.

Get rid of the Ez-bios...its a disaster waiting to happen. I highly suggest getting a used promise ultra 66 or 100 controller and hooking the drive up to that. You can pick them up for about 10 bucks on ebay.
