Got everything working with all my CH USB gear in the Control Manager.
Tested it in settings section the game. I selected "dog fight". Of
course, my controllers don't work in the mission. Of course, I end up
crashing into the ground. The printout for the key commands list the
escape button as how to cancel a mission. Of course it doesn't work
either.

I see the writing on the wall. I am not going to waste another second
of my time with this game. At least I spent $40 and supported this
genre. I've been flying Flight sims, 90% combat sims, for 10 years
now.

Yes, I did patch the game.

No need to proceed any further with this POS and I'll never read
another review from Andy Mahood again!

Don't get frustrated. Falcon is not easy to learn even for the seasoned
pilot. I, too, was quite flustered and, quite frankly impatient. I then
started over from scratch without programming my CH USB gear and used the
key commands for a while. Once I figured out what keys were most commonly
used, then I started to program my HOTAS.

Patience is the biggest virtue with this sim. Also, be sure to take your
time with the training missions. If you don't have the patience or time for
this, then to be honest with you, don't bother to play it. I played Falcon 4
on and off over the seven years prior to Allied Force with much frustration
and realized mainly due to buggy software or unclear documentation from the
many many optional installs. F4AF thankfully offers a very well written
manual, along with a stable environment (read: no CTD's! yay!) that gives
those familiar with some familiarity with flight sims the opportunity to
learn the basics enough to fly missions.

The ESC key will exit out of the 3D world (i.e. in the Falcon cockpit).
However, one bug is that if you have the command menu open, like giving
commands to wingmen, AWACS, ATC, etc, and you eject, you can't close the
command menu, and can't "ESC"ape out. However, once your pilot lands with
his chute, the "Exit" menu pops up. I usually time acclerate to get my pilot
to the ground to get out of the mission.

I have a CH HOTAS config to download, link below, if you're interested, but
I find people have different preferences and do better programming their
own. However, if looking at my CH setup will help, I have posted it here for
your reference:

Enjoy!

BOO HOO.

Sounds like you might be technically challenged...not being able to get
your $600 controller system working in the game and all. I never had a
problem with my X45 gear, and I'm a certified dumbass.

I see the writing on the wall: stable code, good graphics, ACTUALLY
INTELLIGENT AI. I'm willing to bet you were one of the first to line up
for purchasing F4:AF, then went crying boohoo beacause now your wingmen
are doing things you wouln't expect in FF3.

And BTW, don't give the game the benfit of the doubt, or actually post
you specific prolem on SimHQ or Frugals - gee, that would make WAY too
much sense now wouldn't it? No - blame it all on LeadPursuit - it's
quite clearly their fault.

Final word of advice: don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Glad you got your stuff working in the game, but my X36USB and X52 DO NOT
work natively in F4AF... most of the buttons are not recognized...
Everything is fine in Windows and other games.

Hey hockytown (usa)! Looks like you are going to get to see your
RedWings play this year over there in MI!

I am a seasoned pc pilot and realize how hard this sim is (I had the
original, plus many, many more going back to the early 90s. Hornet
Korea and EAW being my all time favorites). My frustration has
nothing to do with combat, etc.... When the keycard (that has to be
printed out) says the Escape key is supposed to exit the mission, and
it doesn't, and when my controllers test and calibrate in the CH CM
and in the game, I don't think I want to continue with the 700+ page
manual. Know what I mean? What else could be wrong? I have read
about a few! Seasoned I am <g>

The key map says the escape key exits the flight (page 10, under
"Sim" )

I didn't get that far. In fact, I had to bring up the Task Manager to
quit the game. I couldn't get back to a menu.

I will love looking at it! Thanks so much! Go Red Wings ( I don't
have a NHL team as I don't like hockey but I was born somewhere
outside of Detroit 47+ years ago). I have been to a couple of
Hartford Whaler games though <BG>

New policy of mine: Let myself cool off before posting a rant :-)
Thanks for being civil, unlike a couple others here (cough, cough!)

NP. I know your frustration. I am a seasoned PC pilot as well, with Jane's
US Navy Fighters (yes, for DOS, on my Pentium 60!) as my first real
dedication to combat flight sims. From there on out I was hooked. I believe
I own or owned every flight sim since then.

Falcon was always a frustration. First with the original and even with 1.08,
there were too many bugs and when you're new to it, you don't know if you're
screwing up, or if its a glitch in the game. Then there were all the SP, FF,
BMS add-ons that only confused the matter more.

With F4AF I promised myself to fly at least one mission once a week to keep
it fresh and tuned since if you don't play for a while, you forget a lot!

Good luck and yes, finally, Go Red Wings! Unfortunately with the salary cap
so many good Wings have moved on to other teams. Sigh. But at least it'll be
fun to watch.

My wing men have never made it to target with me. They keep returning
to base on their own , just like in F4
The more I play this thing the more it looks like F4... bugs and all.

My X52 works fine too :-) Just downloaded the Falcon 4 profile from the
Saitek website and tweaked it to suit my preferred layout.

I reckon there must be a problem with the seat to stick interface ;-)
