My abusive ex, my son's father, keeps hacking our router and making it necessary for us to reset it. Then my dad whom I share internet with doesn't secure it. Is there any way to keep this from going down all the time? Or do I need a new router that he can't continually *** with?
With? Also I need to secure the wireless we have now, or is that a waste of my time? Help!!!!!

If you change the administration password nobody should be able to mess with it. Not much you can do if they actually reset the unit, have to find a way to lock it away to prevent physical access. You cannot just hack into these things.

Securing the wireless is mostly to avoid having to deal with legal issues because someone decided to use your wireless to do something illegal. People who deal in child porn seldom use their own connection and the cops will seize all your equipment until they decide it was not you.

Pretty easy to turn the security on. You just choose WAP or WAP2 and put in a key...different from your admin password. Most routers give you warnings if you attempt to run them with no security or try to use WEP.
