I know it's kind of old, but Jane's Longbow 2 is still my favourite flight sim. It's nearly perfect with regard to realism, and I found it fairly simple to learn. Needs a good stick though.
Longobow II - Not only it needs a decent joystick but it also needs a 3dfx card to be used to its full extent... (I works with GLIDE - not openGL) although i know that around somewhere there is a direct x patch it isn't perfect. I too love this game...pitty I don't have my 3dfx I card anymore And it is a *real* simulator.
Apache 4 is very arcadish, being a simple flight sim... and it sure stresses out your AMD just crank up those video settings

Perhaps you'd like IL-2 Sturmovik? It's a new game set in WWII on the Eastern Front. You can fly all sorts of aircraft, from the US USSR and Luftwaffe. It has great graphics and effects. It also has multiplayer support as well.
AH-64D Longbow - the finest helicopter sim ever made, and one ofthe best sims of any type
Longbow 2 - a feature-rich, detailed, and truly impressive piece of work
Comanche 3 - A killer you never see coming!! Hours of fun, quick thinking, planning and oh yes.....explosions )
or my favorite game IL-2 Sturmovik!! ( the numero uno when it comes to WW2 flight sims and fun enough for those of us with shorter attention spans! ), or why not...some classic helicopter arcade games at http://www.gameshed.com/Flying-Games/. Here is my favorite:
Where do these archived threads come from anyway? I realised that they tend to pop up more frequently recently, and I see absolutely no reason to even keep them open after this time. Everything that is older than 2 years should be locked forever.

longbow2 was made for windows 95 my new comp. has windows xp and when I pulled out this old game and tried to put it on wind.xp it would not load the direct x, and therefore would not finish the install, is there a way to play this old game on newer computers as it was one of my favorites that I haven't played in years. oh ya and the best stick I found for this game is the saitek x36, awsome flight controls
