I'm running a 1.33 AthlonXP processor, Abit KG7 Socket A mobo and I was running (2)128Meg strips of Crucial DDR Ram. Two days ago I added in (1) 256Meg strip more of DDR ram (Kingston) for a total now of 512meg. All 512meg of RAM is shown as being recognized in Windows XP. Since adding additional RAM it seems that my computer will now be running fine then all of a sudden it's like someone hits the reset button...the darn thing restarts by itself. Tried putting a different Hard Drive in the machine and the same happens. Would anyone know what's is going on...didn't think adding RAM would cause such a problem...Thanks for any help.

the memory might be bad. Try it alone (without the 2x128's) and see if it does the same thing.

Does it also beep when you turn it on?

Take the 256MB stick and put it in the lowest numbered DIMM.

Try booting it up that way first.

If everything is okay. Then add one of the 128MB sticks in in the next higher numbered DIMM. If that is fine try the next in the same fashion.

If you run into the same problem after step one. It is probably the new stick that is the problem.

It could be a conflict of memory sticks. It is always better to put the same manufacturer in than differing. That could be the issue here as well.

If all works after you add the first 128 stick but the second 128 won't work. Try it in the 4th DIMM. Sometimes there can be issues with the motherboard. So try all of this stuff and tell us what happens.
