I carnally own a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop and I wanted to get a DVD burner but I did not want to spend a lot on a external DVD burner or a laptop burner I was wondering if u could take normal internal burner and convert to a external burner is it possible

if it were scsi it would be easy. maybe one of those external hard drive casings would work. or get a docking station that has a pci card slot and put an ide adaptor in the card slot.

Yes, you could get an internal burner and a USB 2.0 drive enclosure for 5.25" drives.

Ya get an external Hard Drive docking station and try it. Use a USB port off the lap-top if you have one and plug it into the back of the docking station. The ribbon cable and power supply are the same for both a HD and a CD/DVD drive.
