Hey there,

When buying memory, what do I have to check?

which manufacturers are considered reliable (I know bout Samsung, Kingston, Micron, Hynix, who else?) and how do I

Friends ask me about memory upgrades for old PC's (sdram133 mostly) and I see different brands with different prices and not sure what to recommend.

and, how do I know that I'm getting the memory I paid for (I do not have any shop that I trust yet)

Thanks

If you are buying DDR, check for CL. For example, DDR266 CL2 can outperform DDR333 CL2.5 in some case. The brand is a good indicator for quality like Corsair, Kingston etc. as they are reliable manufacturer. For old PC133 SDRAM, you should get a reliable one like Kingston since they provide a Life time warranty so if you are on limited budget and won't upgrade to DDR within one year, you'll have the replacement if something should happen to the RAM.

Plug & Play? How about Plug & Pray!
