I have an Edirol UA-25 (USB,24bit,44.1/48/96kHz) and Adobe Audition.
I would like to record 24-bit audio, but it looks like Audition has
no ASIO support to allow anything greater than 16-bit recording. I
tried to see if MME or WDE drivers could help, but it appears that
the Edirol box will only speak 24-bit when it is in 'Advanced' mode
(i.e., ASIO).
Can anyone confirm this, or am I all wet?
Also, assuming that is the case, what options do I have? I am
considering using an inexpensive ASIO-aware package like Kristal
(http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/index.php) to record, and then
edit in either that or bring it into Audition if I need anything
fancier. Thoughts? Any suggestions on ASIO-aware capture software?
ASIO driver support in Audition is indeed only problem I have found so far.
Dont know if it is possible to record 24Bit with WDM in XP but Audition
seems to handle it at least.
Surely I can record 24bit / 96KHz files with Audition but dont know is this
_true_
dont know anything about Edirol's drivers thought

That would surprise me but not having one I can't confirm
it. I don't understand why they would limit their MME and
WDM drivers to 16 and allow ASIO to go to 24 when all
interfaces are capable of 24.
A good, cheap package for MT recording that uses ASIO is
Mackie's Tracktion. It's only $80 and it's a bit addictive.
You can get a periodically hissing demo of it from them.
(About the least obnoxios hobble I've ever heard on a demo.)

How is it you know you are not recording at 24bit? Have you checked in
the "wave in properties"? I have found that some 24bit capable devices
will not register correctly in Audition as such.
However, if you are getting the dreaded "Device not supported" or
something like that, message, I don't know what to tell you. I am not
familiar with the driver support from Edirol.

We record 24/96 using Adobe Audition every day. It works fine with a
reliable sound card having solid drivers -- we use M-Audio's Audiophile
2496 card.
