hi all....

this is a really wierd one guys....hopefully someone can help me out on this...
TOEJAM...help!!!

my 40GB IBM GXP has five partitions...C,D,E,F,G...G is for my games and its 10GB, it has 2 folders one called GAMES and the other is an empty folder......i was in the process of cleaning it up...removing demos and old games that i got tired of...About 8GB were bieng used on that G partition , all in the GAMES folder
Uninstall was bieng done through control panel's add/remove...

first i uninstalled BGII( got bored of it and the 2GB it was taking up ), then Grand Prix 3, Tombraider chronicles and map level editor, AvsP2 Demo, MOHAA Demo, Tetris 4000, SS second encounter demo, Halflife and finally sierra utilities....the last one was wierd...and the system hanged for about a minute...but then it confirmed that sierra utilities had been removed...
so i restarted...and after posting...just before the blue welcome screen...the screen stayed blank for almost 3 minutes...then all went ok....
so i go into my G partition to delete the empty folders manually only to find this really wierd thing...
ALL MY GAMES IN THE GAMES FOLDER IN THE G PARTITION HAVE BEEN DELETED...Max Payne, AOE II, Unreal Tournament, Quake III, Serious sam 1, RTCW Demo...everything...
when i right click on G in properties...it says : used ~900MB...although there is only about 200 MB used on G now

p.s. in control panel...all the games that i havent tried uninstalling are still there!!!!!!

what the hell is going on??????/

Have you run a thorough scan on the partition to check for file system errors? Something obviously got screwed up when you uninstalled the Sierra Utilities, but you already know that!

I'd re-format the partition after running the thorough CHKDSK scan. Then reboot, and if the system doesn't hang after the POST, recreate the Games folder. Then reinstall all the missing games, exactly as they were before the error.

Part of this might have to do with attempting to remove the games with Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Almost all games have an Uninstall utility, and that's what you should use to remove them. And one at a time is best, with reboots in-between.

If the games were accidently deleted, it's not uncommon for such application entries to remain listed in Add/Remove Programs. That can even happen with a deliberate uninstall of a program.

If you wish to remove these, before reinstalling the games, first delete any and all references to the games under C:\Program Files, and on the Start Menu. Then run REGEDIT, and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. The sub-keys listed under Uninstall are the entries for the applications in Add/Remove Programs. Removing a key in this area will remove the program from the list.

You could also use a program like RegCleaner, which is excellent for safely removing extraneous keys that refer to a program after it is deleted. This program can also remove Add/Remove entries, under the Uninstall Menu on the Toolbar.

If all else fails, run a diagnostic on the drive.

I hope this helps!
