I am currently running with the SCSI Adaptec 2940U2W with no problems at all, but whenever I R&R the host controller to the new 29160 (Flashed with current 3.10 BIOS), I get the BSOD upon booting into W2k "Inaccessible boot device".

Reinstall the 2940U2W and no problems booting whatsoever. I tried:

1. Uninstalling the 2940U2W driver and removing the device from Device Manager, then R&R to the 29160, but get the same message (Inaccessible boot device)

2. Setting the 29160 BIOS to default

BTW, termination is not the issue, niether are cables (using the U160 cales w/terminator). I am at wits end with this card. Any suggestion/advice appreceiated.

Do you even need the 29160? I mean, is your drive faster than 40MB/s? I can't understand why you'd want to upgrade otherwise.

I have an ultra2 & an ultra160 cheetah HDD's installed currently, and plan on replacing the ultra2 HDD with another ultra160 that is at the present, sharing the same bus. As you know SCSI is expensive, so I make my upgrades bit-by-bit. The default transfer rate at the moment is 80MB/s, but with the 29160 and two ultra160 HDD's I will be set for the optimal transfer rate of the host (160MB/s). I got the card for $120. so I thought it was a good deal.

I believe that I have discovered the problem with W2k not accepting the 29160 host controller, but reading the solution kinda bothers me. Microsoft's Workaround If I had installed the card at the same time as W2k I guess it would be a problem, but there response for a workaround, IMO is bogus, but if I want it to work I will have to try it. Right now I'm not in the mood for this nonesense, so I'll save it for when I get really board.
