I have narrowed down my choices to these and would like some input on these drives. I want the drive to be quiet and quick...
Asus 52x
Samsung 52x
Artronix 56x
Lite on 52x

I've recently had troubles with my 72x kenwood and they want me to pay $60 for them to fix it. My dad has an ASUS and I feel that it is a very well made drive. Any other ideas/options?? other than another Kenwood....

I miss my ATI Radeon 64mb ViVo SE :frown:

The liteon 52x. I have 2 liteon drives now and are very happy with both, a 16x dvd and a 48x24x48x burner.

Quiet & quick
You cant have both. High speeds means high spin speeds, and that invaribly means noise.
Thats why i DONT reccomend the 56x drive.

I have a lite on 48x12x48 and i'm also quite content with it. How fast would the Lite On 52x be in comparison to the others? My main concern is the smoothness of the drive. My 50x Delta sounds like my PC is gonna fly off my desk. My dad's ASUS you can't feel at all and it is nearly silent. Anyone have any experience with Samsung or Artec??

It shouldnt be much louder, allthough alot depends on the drive mechanics and vibration dampening techniques.

For example, i have the 165H 16xdvd 48xcd drive and also the 48x24x48x... and the burner is ALOT quieter at full spin... amazingly pleasant infact, due to the advanced vibration dampening technology that is needed for reliable high speed burns.

CD-ROM drives tend to be low on the list regarding noise/vibration technologies.
