hey, well Battlefield 3 will be a very hardcore to run apparently, BUT saying that, you shouldn't have many problems with battlefield 3, i am not guaranteeing you will be able to run it at highest spec , you might, we dont know yet ! but you should be okay.

Depends how you can accept your FPS. If you want an average high 50's - 60 at 1920X1080 that card will need to be all at low with no AA. If you can accept an average mid 30-ish then you can go medium (again avoid the AA). BF3 itself will set a mix of med and high with that card which will pull an average high 20/low 30's(not really acceptable FPS)

I can say that as pretty much fact as I used a 550ti for a large part of this year and its now in my wifes PC

Somebody asked a similar question the other day and a number of people insisted you can run higher settings so I made thislovely video using my wifes 550ti and a mix of high/med as you can see the FPS is not nice its all stuttery (click the image to go to video)

(the recording software leeches off between 5-10 FPS)

That's always a tough question to answer because it will all end up being based on your tastes. I can say that you /will/ be able to play it and it /will/ be playable (I had a similar set-up at release, but I just played on default settings and it was fine), but what settings it will run on will be, like I said, based on your tastes. Some people are freaks about FPS, and if that's you, then you will be unsatisfied if you attempt to run everything on High. I would say that Medium would work well for your setup.

That being said, I can easily see your bottleneck being your GPU with your setup. I don't know if you have a budget for an upgrade, but I would personally recommend the GTX 560 or 480. They've both got a great price-performance ratio and would nearly double your Passmark GPU score.
