.jpeg weirdness windows 7

This is a new problem for me. Several .jpegs that I have downloaded are behaving oddly:

1.) In thumbnails, the image in a narrow vertical line. Opens fine in all apps.
2.) In thumbnails, the image is a narrow horizontal line. Opens fine in all apps.
3.) In thumbnail, the image is in full color. Opens in black and white in all apps.

Apps include Windows Live Photo Gallery, Corel Paint Shop Pro XIV, Adobe Elements 6...

All are updated. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

try to clear the thumbnail cache:

Nope - did not solve the issue...BUT!

Discovered that if I changed the file association to .png, problem resolved.
