Incompatible memory?

I got my new system put togther,MB=MSI KT4VL,I already had 512 of pc 2100 ddr ram,Installed my new XP2600+ processor and my system constantly crashes,The processor runs at 333 FSB, is it overclocking my ddr?Need help with this if anyone can.
