Cannot start Win update on Win 7 64 bit

Hello,
I have a Lenovo T61 laptop which came with Windows Vist 32 bit. I installed a new harddrive and more memory and installed Win 7 Pro, 64 bit. Now I cannot start up Windows Update. It tells me that my registration key is not valid even though I purchased it through NewEgg and MS rep states that it is valid. Not sure if this is due to upgrading to 64 bit from 32.

you are using the new product key that came with win7pro64? other than that are you sure there's no typo?
