A police report was done. However, I am sure this is just a common problem for them with many cases. My Vaio/Sony was stolen.

No way to track it, as long as you don't have a special security software on it. Only chance: find it on ebay.

If you are a US taxpayer you may have a casualty loss deduction, and perhaps your homeowners insurance will cover some of the loss if it meets the policy criteria.
