Looks like the MOTU Traveler will be a good contender for Metric Halo
2882, at a lot lower rate ($900 retail). I know the Traveler was
advertised in the AES papers a couple weeks ago. As to why MOTU wasn't
in attendance is beyond me. Anyway, by mere specs, what do you think
of the Traveler? However, users say the 2882 a/d converters are
high-grade. MOTU and users don't say anything about MOTU converters.

How do you conclude that it will be a good contender if you've never
seen it and never heard it? Count the number of inputs and outputs and
divide by price? The Metric Halo stuff sounds awfully good, and that's
something you don't need paper to verify.

As you noticed, MOTU wasn't at AES (as were a lot of other MI
companies not there) so anyone who may have had a preview didn't get
one.

yeah, that's right. specs. compare the features and they are
identical, and not just inputs and outputs. i'm not going to post the
specs here, but it's obvious that companies release products that
emulate others, especially successful ones, so as to target a similar
buyer. some people can't afford the halo, no matter how good it
sounds, but maybe they'd buy a lower-priced halo-type product, even if
there is a possible compromise on sound. as i said in my original
post, i realize motu wasn't at aes.
