I have an older pc, that had its old athlon 1GHz chip fail. It was sent for repair and a newer 1.2 GHz duron processor fitted. When it came back it worked fine but when I next came to turn it on, there was only a blank screen but the computer looked as though it was working, so i reset and then the screen came on...any ideas what is wrong, I have no clue??
Let me get this straight. When you turn on your PC, it boots fine but the monitor displays nothing. You have to reset the PC before the monitor wakes up?
Does that happen everytime?

Yeah...every single time almost. On the odd occasion it will do it first time though. If it doesn't work, the monitor just remains on standstill as if it isn't getting a signal.
Hm. strange. Do you have another monitor you could try?
Im trying to figure out whether there actually is coming a signal to the monitor.
You should also try reseating the grafix card and the monitor cable. It may be as simple as a loose connection.

Recently encountered an almost identical problem on a friends machine. I upgraded his old vid card for a Hercules Kyro2 4500. The card worked fine before but now...
When the PC is switched on from cold it boots up fine, but there is no display on the monitor. Hitting the reset button one or two times fixes it.
At first I assumed the mainboard needed a BIOS update, but after a little testing I discovered that disconnecting and reconnecting power to the monitor rectified the problem.
It seems that the PC initializes the video sub-system, yet the monitor fails to wake from the video cards signal.
I have tried unplugging my monitor and plugging it back in with no luck. I am going to check the graphics card to make sure it is working correctly by using it on a friends pc. I have also heard that it could be a memory error, is this true??
Although memory problems can cause all kinds of errors, I doubt it has anything to do with your problem, since you machine actually boots.

Another things you can try when the card turns out to be OK is going into your BIOS and search for an option 'Init display first' or similair... set that one to AGP.
My CPU runs so hot the arctic silver undergoes nuclear fusion .
Check the processor multiplier settings in BIOS.
I had this embarrasing problem a couple of months ago, when I powered it on the computer refused to boot, when I hit reset it did boot.
I checked like everyting there is to check, but retarded as a human can be I somehow managed to overlook the multiplier settings for the processor...
