Can I connect two routers on a single internet modem. I need a router that is isolated from a public wi-fi connection. The routers need to operate independently.

Can this be done?

Mostly this is a question for the ISP. What you want is 2 different IP addresses which the provider needs to allow.

Most the time for a cable type modem they will say yes and for dsl they will say no but in the end it is up to them of course the YES answer normally comes at a cost.

You could in worst case put a third router in the mix. You could put in a main router that gets the real IP and then place the 2 other routers behind it. The things behind the 2 routers would not have access to each other mostly because the routing doesn't work unless you do some special setup.
