I got the same (I think, 48246s) 48x24x48x today, only have 40x discs though :(
it still did a 48x write, I was wondering maybe dude in store think they're 40x discs and they're more (they are the no print silver blanks so no clue how they tell the speed). the only thing I can see on the discs are these numbers 6149GH24030895LHD0. burning done at 48x according to nero, little confusing. If it keep burning at 48x I'm going back to buy a couple of more spindles before he wake up and raise the price of it :D

2 years old HP pooped out today, did 4 coasters in a row so it's done. I was expecting this coming.

Nero & the drive does a disc check that tests the quality of the media.
my EMTEC's are only officialy rated for 1-16x, yet burn fine at the full 48x.

I've tried it ... it works

that's weird, but you'll not hear complaining from me about it :D

I just did a test with an "el cheapo" Colorful MaxMax 2x-40x cdr and it also burned at 48x. this cdr comes in many names but all the same.

it worked. but have to find something to fill a 700 Mb cdr because I'm burning small files so it doesn't have a chance to go over 20 some x. think I'm the only one who doesn't have enough mp3's to make 1 cd :( (even when change them to wave)

thanks for the info though

get on your favorite p2p (I like winmx, http://www.winmmx.com) search and download album, extractor, then search for your favorite artist and add albw in the space for the song title download any results that look good to you and extract the entire album you just downloaded into its individual songs with albumwrap extractor then burn your new complete album  should be enough for a whole cd if you add a few singles to the mix also as most albums are only about 450 ~ 500 mb

I'll need to try that one out. A recent hard disk problem wiped out a good number of songs on my system, dropping it down by a gig and a half worth of mp3s :frown:

Have you tried the latest firmware for LiteOn 48x/24x/48x? Does it solve the problem with 24x CD-RW burning?

Let us know What File compression format you use?

Honestly no i havnt.
Ive only got 10x RW media currently and i need to find some 24x stuff. On a good note though, i can erase and write on the 10x media at 12x  Better than nothing.

But at somepoint i will get 24x media, as well as flashing the drive as i think its doing what my dvd also did, confuse cd-rw activity with HDD activity and thus light up the hdd led excessivly.

I don't use those things, only mIRC :)

my problems is that I don't know the titles and artists they play in clubs, so download 30 albums and keep maybe 2 mp3's out of those. :D most of the time I'm not even close to what I'm looking for, just keep trying.

at the lan downloaded a dude's whole drive full of mp3's and barely liked a few. then told him he is the only person I know who got 6 of every files in all different folders. :)

going to look for club tunes I guess, first for a listing of current tracks played in clubs.

anyway, thanks for the idea though

..so pathetic with the "don't know music" that I give a guy at work blanks to make me club tunes cd's..

ok keep laughing :p

you have optical drives as both masters??? that is goofy.

It maks perfect sence. His hard drive is most likely on a raid channel, and since IDE can not handle paralel comunications between drives, like scsi can, using a master-slave config would make cd-cd burning slow at best.

Now thats what I want to know!

Actually, i never had any problems with master to slave burning... Allthough occasionally i had issues with my old (now retired) pioneer dvd drive going back to PIO mode... So changing all my drives to be masters alone on a channel was to avoid any future DMA issues, Avoid cable length problems and just to be different
Got 4 rounded clear shielded IDE cables
Prim master: Liteon 16x dvd
sec master: Liteon 48246S -> firmware flashed to 52246S
raid 1 IDE master: 800JB
raid 2 ide master: D740X.

Works well. Looks good inside.

i just recently got my lite on 16x dvd and cd writer 48x...but when i try to burn cd with Nero 5, i only can burn it with 40x, but 48x is not an option..
do u know why by any chance?????tks

Thats becauze nero and your burner autodetects the blank cd-r insterted, and chooses a max speed depending on its quality.

i usually only get 40x instead of 48x out of media rated for 1-16x, so im not to angry about it :)
