Hello,
I keep getting this message that the adapter is not connected. I have tried unhooking both the modem and the router. This used to work. It does not now.
I use the wireless not only for the laptop but also for the xbox. I have had problems with this in the past but also recently discovered I had a bad plug strip (one for the computer).
I change this out with a new one and the xbox is more stable, but I continue to have connectivity issues with the laptop. Then I looked in network and found the icons representing my connec-tivity were gone. I have noting to connect with as a result. I am at a loss as to what the next step should be?

Can you go into the adaptor settings and see if the adaptor has been turned off (diabled) ? You can check this in device manager by right clicking on the network device and selecting properties and on the bottom of the window it should say that the device is working properly.
