How much time it will take to upgrade my LiteOn 40x/12x/48x CD-RW's (LTR-40125S) firmware from current "ZS0N" to new "ZS0P"?

And if the firmware upgrade process fails in the midway, will the CD-RW become unusable?

Flashing doesnt take long at all, barely half a minute.

Even if you have a bad flash apparently the drive is still recoverable by reflashing it.

P.S. Did you know you could most likely flash upgrade your drive to a 48x12x48x unit or even a 48x24x48x one???

Yes, I know. But I don't want to overclock my CD-RW at this moment

Ya know, I flashed my Verbatim VBT401248A drive with the Lite-On ZS0N firmware (used mtkflash) to make it a "real" Lite On drive, then decided to try the VS06 firmware for 48x12x48x functionality. I'm asking the LHGPooBaa (not a poobah?) if there's any confirmation as to the possibility of squeezing 48x24x48x performance out of what was once a 40x12x48x drive?

I THINK you can, but im not 100% sure.
Best do a little research first, and work out how to 'unflash' your drive incase it doesn't work.

Honestly though at the moment its not worth it... 24x capable CDRW media is very hard to find, and impossible to find at anything less than exorbident prices.

strange really. I went to a computer swapmeet today and noticed literally dozens of 48x24x48x burners around, yet NO 24x media. the best i could see was 12x stuff.

Oh, yeah. I completely agree about the frivolity of having 24x write capable CD-RW drive with no media to use for it. I rarely use CD-RWs anyway. CD-R's are just so darned cheap. I don't plan on flashing my drive to 48x24x48x, anyway. I think the newer drives ARE different (dumbed down 52x24x52x). I only flashed to 48x12x48x because I read an article plus review of a successful overclock. It sorta kinda works....
