Hello,

When start Thinkpad Edge with Windows 7 and the Seagate gofelx - Thinkpad does not start I must disconnect the UBS and restart - then plug the UBS to access the drive. Doe I need to format something to have Windows read teh Seagate drive?

Something definitely is amiss here. The device should be recognized. Have you looked for errors in device manager and event viewer ?
