I have a Lite-On LTR-48246s drive... love the drive but onto my point...

the first few times i ran nero on this new ocmputer i was able to burn at 48x no problem. Now when i try to burn it only lets me do it at 40x... driving me insane!!! anyone have a solution? CloneCD has no problem burning at full speed... neither does discjuggler.

Ive had the same issue with nero and my 48246S.
It depends on what version of nero you are running and the quality of the cd-r's you are using.

Nero uses the burner to quickly check the disk quality... and from that decide on the burn speed. Sometimes its right, othertimes its not.
I have 700Mb EMTEC green CD-R disks.
Most of the time it burns them at 40x, sometimes it does 48x... not too bad for CD's that are 1-16x rated.

maybe you should get better quality CD-R's?

Interesting bit of information for you.
Recently i reflashed my firmware and upgraded the drive to a 52x24x52x.
And the EMTEC disks i talked about earier are detected differently.

Previously most of the time i could burn at 48x, with only the odd disk burning at 40x. now with the new firmware they all seem to be identified as only being 40x capable. My other disks, TDK gold, burn at 48 or 52x no problems.

So changing your firmware and Nero version can affect how it decides what speed to choose.
