My Ethernet to router

Okay so i buy a wireless router and i plug it in and i also plugin the Ethernet cable but my main PC that the signal is released from don't work but it still gives off a signal?????

i am confused about your setup.

Can you explain how the main PC is connected and to what?

I guess the router is connected to the modem, and what else is connected to the router?

Okay basically i got a lead going to my router from my modem and a Ethernet cable going from my PC tower into my router and it lets off a signal but it wont let me use internet on my desktop?????

Have you set up your router and your wireless network ? It may only be a one computer networrk but you still have to set it up. If you want to add devices to the router later then you can do that but first you have to set up your wireless network.
You do that from your computer and from network connections.

Did you have the computer hooked up to the modem before you installed the router? Try this:

- Disconnect both modem and router from power.
- Disconnect the coaxial cable or phone line from the modem.
- Wait a couple minutes.
- Plug power and coaxial cable or phone line into the modem.
- Wait until modem finishes powering up.
- Plug power into router and then plug LAN cable from the modem to the internet port of your router.
- Now plug any computers into the router via LAN cable and see if you get a connection.
