I need to play Warcraft 3//
I have the following Specs..
Intel Pentium 2 450MHz
256MB SDRAM - 128 MB Kingston PC133
- 64 MB Kingston PC133
- 64 MB Hyundai PC100
16MB RIVA TNT
19GB Western Digital HD 7200rpm 2mb.

I think I need more RAM and a New Graphic Card..
Since all my slots are full I would need to replace one..
How much extra RAM do you think i should get... 256MB??

and the Graphic Card...
I am thinking of the GeForce 2 MX400 and the GeForce 2 MX440..
whats the difference
I sure see more difference in the Price..
:)

How much money are you willing to spend? It looks like you should upgrade your system from scratch with a new motherboard.

I also play WC3, and I suggest the following system if you are on a budget...

Soyo Dragon Lite motherboard (82$)
At least 256MB DDR2100 Crucial, 512MB highly recommended (63$ for 256MB)
Radeon 8500/Ti4200 (GeForce2 MX is very slow, I have one) 94$/125$
Athlon XP 1600+ OEM (55$)

Total around 270$ - 380$ depending on your choice in ram and video card.

Use your old HDD. If you are planning to use Windows XP get 512MB ram.

You can find all of this at http://www.newegg.com

I think you have enough RAM for an older system like that. I agree with you about the GF2MX 400 64MB......I recently bought one for an old 500Mhz K6-2 system and it bumped up performance in Direct3D by more than double. I wouldnt suggest spending any more than $50 though, because after that amount it becomes more and more worthwhile to go the whole hog and upgrade your system entirely, as the previous poster suggested.

Oh, and if you weren't planning on it already and live in the USA, I'd recommend looking at buying from NewEgg.com. They're very reliable and speedy. My card arrived from them cross-country in just two or three days.

I think GPU should be your priority, and don't waste tons of cash on it. Something like GF2 should be on pair with your system, but don't think to play intensive 3D games. So sorry.

Btw, I don't know if your mobo can do it, but have you tried to push your FSB up? In case you want to test it, unplug your 64Mb PC100 module and try (just to make sure your memory is not the problem if it fails). Then check if it's worth 64Mb less but faster CPU.

Hope this helps!

BTW if you didn't know your ram is only working a pc100 so the pc133 is also working ar pc100 it would be good to get a module of 256MB (that way you'll have 320Mb at pc133, and just remove the pc100) pc133 and a geforce 2 GTS or ti 64Mb shouldn't be that expensive and will be way faster then the mx

A new video card will do the trick. However you have an old motherboard which will be AGP. The new card will be AGP 4x. So you would not benefit from some of the cards power. However you have a PII which is a Slot 1. You would have to get a board like the Asus P3V4X.

Patrick Schmid from Tom's did a review on it.

Asus has the specs here.

It can take you processor, PC133, and a 4x AGP card.

So for you to get a better preformance machine you will have to upgrade at least the video card, if not also the memory, the motherboard, and the processor would help too. But if you can find a cheap P3V4X like on ebay then you could upgrade the memory for a small price and then get that video card. GeForce2-G4x, ATI Radeon, or even an old Voodoo 5 5500 or 6000 will work.

Take any of this however you want. I hope you find what you are looking for.
