Howdy all

iread in the motorola userguide that they do not recommend the use of
smaller or non-motorola antennas.....they say it could damage your
phone

i'm just looking at the option of putting a little stub antenna on
mine.....

any opinions on the technical side of using a smaller antenna would be
appreciated?

In a strong signal are it should be fine but it won't give you as many
"bars" as the OEM one in marginal areas. For best operation an antenna
has to be tuned to the frequency range it's supposed to receive. The
length of the antenna is an important factor and is a "known" that's
used by the circuitry to optimize the reception performance. If you
change the actual length of the antenna to a smaller number it will no
longer be optimized for the frequency range you need.

If you put a mini antenna on, make sure if you ever take the phone for
repairs under warranty to put the original antenna back on. It can void your
warranty.
