Faster DDR memory speed on Lower M/B mem slots

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether a faster DDR memory such as PC2700 DDR will work on a motherboard (MSI MAX2 BLR) which only supports PC2100 DDR. Is this case the same as running PC133 SDRam in a PC100 supported motherboard senario, where the memory just runs at a slower speed? or will this damage the motherboard or RAM chip?

Thanks

Cheers

The memory is backwards compatible. the pc2700 is just rated to run at a faster speed. if u want u can try overclocking the fsb to better match the memory speed but keep in mind it may affect other components and lead to an unstable or unbootable system. if it doesnt work just change the fsb speed back to a lower number that was stable.
