Bluetooth Places works, MPT does not

I have a Moto v551, Ambicom USB adaptor, XP SP2.

I followed the instructions to rename the Microsoft .inf file, downloaded
the latest drivers from Ambicom, running WIDCOMM ver 3.0.1.912

In Control panel it shows the WIDCOMM driver, not Microsoft.

I am able to get into my phone through the Bluetooth Places, move pics and
tones in and out, but when I run MPT, it stays at Discovering devices, with
the clock just spinning, never finding my phone.

I have restarted both, pulled the phone battery, running out of ideas, any
help?

BTW, "Al Phillips" is the name of of a big chain of dry cleaners here in
Honolulu (as well as in CA, OR and Las Vegas!
