Can i connect to the internet using a router and no service provider?

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

In a word - no. You have to be able to connect to the Net through an ISP you pay for the service or through a free wi-fi cloud connection but there aren't too many of those around.. If you see one of those in the list of available networks, you may still find you can get as far as their own website and be expected to have your credit card ready.

Some people in short-term rented properties make private financial arrangements with a neighbour to share their bandwidth.
