I don't have experience with the Asus CDRW (though I've read that MSI CDRWs are better), but I know that writting speed depends on a few factors:
- CDRW write speed (in this case 48X)
- CD/DVD-ROM read speed (52X for a new CD/DVD-ROM)
- CPU speed (your CPU has to be able to handle the data processing)
- the write speed capacity of the CDRW disks

Now, I wouldn't suggest getting a CDRW/DVD if you're going to have a CDRW alone - its a waste of money, since the burning speed of that drive makes no difference when you're only using it to read. All you need is a 16X DVD (Lite-On is good and innexpensive) and a fast computer.

Another unproven issue might be the limits of audio-CD burning. I've heard (though cannot confirm) that burning audio CDs works best under 24X, but like I said, I can't say from personal experience.

Staggering out of the shower this morning, I hear the hair-dryer. "Whose awake?" I think... Till I realize its my computer - talk about a windtunnel

Buy LiteOn 48x/12x/48x. It's the best buy CD-RW now.
