Windows 8 $14.99 upgrade

I have a VAIO running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I’m taking advantage of Microsoft’s $14.99 Windows 8 upgrade offer. At the beginning of the process, they’re offering me a DVD for another $14.99. It’s been years since I upgraded, as opposed to a clean install, and I don’t know how they’re handling it now. Is the DVD just a copy of the file I’m going to download?
