they've posted the links but they go nowhere yet the release date is listed as 1/3/03 there appears to be one for the 52236s and the 48246s link the one for the 48246s says the same on the page as the 52 but the link points to a different zip file that seems to be the correct one..

Personally i think its pointless to update at this time as even the availibility of 24x certified CD-RW media is VERY rare. (and costly)

well no actually I meant 52246s lol and I have been using the unofficial 6s08 for a few days now(they will not be releasing this one however) the newer firmwares enable the drive to match (use) more media types \ brands etc. there are rumors that the drive will be flashable to a 52346s sometime in the future but as you point out even 24x rewritable is rare as hen's teeth at the moment

Im allready using the latest 52246S firmware with good sucess.... though ive found that with my 1-16x rated emtecs it now usually rates them at 40x instead of 48x previously.

yeah the rating is more a function of smartburn.exe and has been reported to be a little inaccurate at times... my fuji TY's rated for 16x report as good to go at 40x and the fuji ty's rated at 48x are rated by smartburn at 52x I almost never burn at those speeds anyway unless I am doing a test .. fwiw I burned a copy from a clonecd image today, as a test, of winxp pro corp at 52x with the fuji 48x's and cdspeed reported no file \read or surface errors CDDoctor also reported no c2 and a very very low rate of c1 errors so I am happy with the performance with the overclock to say the least. also I find the drive is really not noisy for all the speed it has at least over the background hum of the 6 or so fans whirring around my rig

Indeed. Nothing that a change of media wont fix. Got a pile of 700Mb TDK gold here and im doing a mp3 backup.... all 22cd's worth.
And the TDK burn at the full 52x with zero problems or errors. WHEEEEEEEEEEE
