Edit seem 0032_0001.
At offset 14, set bit 1 to "on".

thx for the reply.
this thing is pretty stupid since my 3 years old nokia 3590 was able to do
that from the menu...
what would they configure the menu like that?

This is obviously customized at Cingular's request. They must have some
reason for making it difficult to hide your CID. If I'm not mistaken, in
fact, there's an FAQ something on their web site that says the same thing.

You can call Rogers and ask then to remove it your caller id so it won't
show at all when you make a call

Haven't a clue why they excluded this, I have it on my V300, but not my
V551, but like was mentioned before, you can seem edit the V551 to include
this in the menu. Easiest way to do this imho is to use p2kman to download
and upload the 0001_0032 seem, and use seemplayer to do the editing for you,
with something like seem player, you just check a box, save and you are
done, after uploading the file back to your cell with p2kman of course.
There are all-in-wonder programs to do this as well, but I have yet to
bother with them.

Gonna wait a year to get what you want now then ;-)
Just make a copy of every seem you download to use as back in case of the
off chance something does go wrong, which is rare when using the programs I
mentioned.
