I have a Palm T5 with Bluetooth and currently using a TMobile V60(with
Bluetooth addon) to access the internet with GPRS. My agreement is
about up and I'm getting a Cingular V551.
I've read on forums that I can use the V551 as a modem just like the
TMobile V60, but I don't want to pay the $80 toll to get unlimited
data. I've heard that I may be able to use the unlimited media plan for
24.95. I just don't know how. The media plan also has Edge, which sound
likes a plus to have.

I would appreciate any help in this area.

Thanks.

I had exactly the same problem. Here's what I did. Get Cingular to
sign you up for CSD (about $3.50/month). Then you can make data calls
with your phone as a modem. All you pay is the minutes. It's not the
same as connecting with just your phone but I prefer it.

Palmwise, for Connection in Preferences, choose Standard GSM phone.
Don't even bother with downloading the drivers, they won't help much.
For Network, type in your ISP phone number and password. You don't
need a script. This is the tricky part: For the phone number, add a +
to the front (+1-912-555-1234). The + sign turns on the data
connection. Otherwise you'll just beep and hang up.

If you only need a connection once in awhile, try Protel
(evodialer.com). They offer free internet connections. Pretty busy and
not very reliable, but free nonetheless.

Let me know if there are any other questions.

John

That sounds great. I've heard CSD is very slow and was hoping for EDGE
speeds with the Medianet. If not, I'll have to be satified with the CSD
speeds.

Thanks
