I have a Peavey VMP-2 that has seen plenty of usage since I bought it 4
or 5 years ago. I know it could benefit from some fresh tubes.
>From reading past posts, I know a number of folks here have this unit.
I'd be interested in hearing opinions on what kind of replacement tubes
people have tried, and what kind of a sound difference the changes
made.

Those 12AT7 and 12AX7 tubes will last forever. Having said that, I
have replaced the six 12AX7 Sovteks in my VMP-2 with GT Mullard
reissues. I seem to recollect that the 12AT7 was a mil spec Phillips
which was fine. I threw in a couple Mullards because I had them, but
I doubt that makes much difference with the 12AT7s. My perception
overall, is that it now sounds smoother, particualrly on the highs,
and has slighly less gain. There are a number of posts where some
owners have done a lot of tube switching and you may want to google
them up. I generally dislike Sovteks in my guitar amps and saw no
reason why I'd like them any better in my preamp. Next stop is my
VC/L-2 compressor. I haven't actually lifted the hood yet, but I bet
it's full of Sovteks too.
