There are a lot that can compete with the mackies, but many of them are
more expensive. What are you looking for, and what sort of sound do you
want to begin with? You want real extension, or loud thumping?

I would like the quality of the components to be comparable to those in the
mackie subs, to complement the SRM 450s, and end up with a system that has a
nice flat response. I am more interested in tight, well defined bass ...
not just loud and vibrating teeth. Sorry, I'm not a sound guy. So, thats
the best I can do to describe it. I am interested in quality components at
a reasonable price ... less the retail.
Thanks

Exactly! Can you get that with a sub/satellite rig ... any sub/satellite
rig ? Or am I wasting my time?

I have heard satellite/sub systems that had reasonable extension and fairly
flat response for PA applications, BUT they were designed to cross over very
low, much lower than you can get away with using the Mackies.
You might look at the Bag End subs. They do a surprisingly good job for
the price and size as far as real extension goes. They are no Servodrives,
but they don't cost what the Servodrives do either.
