That seems to indicate that there's a software or firmware problem.
Given the age of the product - 5 years is an eternity in this
business, you might be out of luck. I checked the Akai web site for
any signs of support for the DR16 and didn't see any. I was thinking
that there might be a way to reload the operating system software, but
I couldn't find it.
If the BAD CODE message comes up immediately after you apply power,
it's quite possible that there's a problem with firmware on an EPROM
which will have to be replaced. I'd suggest checking Akai support
in your country at http://www.akaipro.com/int/support/index.html

In the archives section they have a file for the OS for the DR16 Pro so
I am sure you can reload it. Prabably done via midi/sysex.

Go to the link below and post your question there. Someone will help
you out. Good luck.

Got a link to that? I tried looking at several Akai web sites and
didn't find any reference to the DR16, even in the archive section.

Well, I guess that's the "it" I was asking about, but unless you can
read Japanese, you wouldn't know it. I was hoping there was something
in English that would say "Here's how to install the OS and here's the
file you need."
Hopefully this is enough of a clue for the person who was having the
problem.

AKAI has a us tech support phone number so I bet they could tell him
what to do. He sounds like he may be from another country but I am sure
they have some place to call there. The products themselves don't have
great manuals.
Geez, how can you guys find this stuff? Certainly not by searching the
Akai web site. I'm in awe. I hope the original poster appreciates your
effort.
I started in the same place, clicked on "Archive products" where I
expected to find the DR16, and got a much shorter list than you see
when you click on "Download Centre." I guess you just need more
patience than I have with many web sites.

Mike I recently bought an MPC1000 so I had scoured the site looking for
registration information because there was none in the package so I
knew my way around it.
