I am buying RDRAM for my new computer. My new computer will have the Intel Pentium 2.4B chip running on the I850 Chipset. Should I save my money and buy PC800 ram now and buy PC1066 RAM later or go and spend the extra $$$ for PC1066? I want to know if it would be worth the extra $$$ to go to PC1066 and if I would see a big jump in performance.

Thanks
Derek

Get the PC1066 now and expect a big increase in performance.

I second crashman. I was deciding with the same thing a few months ago and you will really notice the difference in gaming. I will benchmark my machine with PC-800 timing and PC-1066 timing in 3D Mark 2001SE and post the results for you.

Here are some of the results, I cant figure out how to downclock the memory to PC-800. Im still new to all this stuff so i have no clue how to do it.

Specs, P4 2.4B
850E Tehema Chipset
GV-9700 PRO
512 MB Kingston PC-1066

SiSoft Sandra 2003
PC-1066-RAM INT Buffered 3194 MB/s
-RAM Float Buffered 3180 MB/s
SiSoft says that on an 850E chiposet the PC-800 will run better than PC-800 on a 850 chipset
PC-800(850) INT Buff. 2450 MB/s
Float Buff. 2450 MB/s
PC-800(850E)INT Buff. 2790 MB/s
Float Buff. 2785 MB/s

I really have no clue what all this means except that the higher the number the better the performance.

I would like to compare 3d mark scores but i dont know hot to get the memory to run at PC-800. Can i even do this? I just want to see if there is a difference.
