Computer monitor turns off and then computer locks up

I already made a thread about my other computer, but I thought that this would be a good time to make one about my main computer and its problems.

Once again, I can't find anything concrete on this subject so I wanted to ask all of you specifically.

Whenever I play games (World of Warcraft, League of Legends, DotA2, and other games) my computer occasionally does this weird thing where (in this order) the monitor will turn off, I can still talk on skype for a few seconds, then my computer locks up and all I can hear is the in game music and sounds infinitely looping.

This is a problem for me because most of these games are competitive and online, so when I crash my team and friends are likely to lose. For this reason, I have taken a break until I can solve this problem.

Here are my specs:

Operating System
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i7 980 @ 3.33GHz 38 °C

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

It stays relatively cool when I play. The numbers here were a bit off for some reason. I usually get on average around 50 degrees celsius.
  3. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
  4. Sounds like a video card driver problem. If you have the most up to date one installed already then try uninstalling it in safe mode and then do a reinstall
  5. do you have spare videocard? it happens to me before. a videocard issue.
