Asynchronous Memory better?

What is the difference between asynchronous and synchronous memory, I know one has set clock cycles that are synchronized, but what are the main differences, and which is better??

Depends on what's limiting performance - if you have PC133 memory and a 100x2 FSB processor then running memory at 133 and the processor at 100x2 (asynch) will provide faster memory performance than if you run synch with PC100. I have a Duron (100x2 FSB) on a MB that supports both PC100/133 and DDR 1600/2100 memory, and upgraded from PC133 to DDR2100. I was surprised to see that with the memory at 133 (DDR2100) the performance was actually slghtly slower based on Sandra benchmark than when operated at 100 (DDR1600) where the Duron FSB is fully synched with the memory. What is your processor and memory?

Well, I am looking at mobo options and with the E7205 chipset you can only have sync and it only says it supports up to ddr 2100, someone told me I am able to get away with higher than that. I am going to get a 2.4 or 2.5 p4 with 533 fsb. Want to get fastest memory I can. I am not sure how all the 133's and 100's and multipliers and crap work so if someone could point me in the right direction.
