Posted this in the Windows 2000 forum, too. Upgraded my bro-in-law's IBM Thinkpad to Win2000 from 98 for stability. He likes to watch DVD movies on long business flights with it but a couple of weeks after installing Win2000 the DVD drive won't come out of PIO mode so the video's unwatchably choppy. I have it set to 'DMA if available' but it stays in PIO. Any suggestions?

Yeah. I had problems occasionally with my pioneer 106S doing that.
Seemed to be a random occurance.

Things you can try:
A. Set DMA mode
B. Reinstall chipset/IDE drivers
C. Delete drive from the hardware profile and let windows reinstall it
D. Delete the offending IDE channel in the hardware profile and let windows reinstall it.

One time Nothing seemed to work till i tried 'D.'
Oh, and ive found win2k to be touchy with DMA as well.
