I read the article, "Fast and Secure: A Comparison of Eight RAID Controllers" which compared several IDE RAID cards. It was quite comprehensive and enlightening. Thanks.

However, I came across a product made by Koutech, PIR133 Ultra ATA/133 PCI RAID, which less expensive that some in the article. Has THG tested this product? If so, how does it compare to the others?

If anyone has had personal experience with this product, please comment.

Thanks.

Which chip is it using? A Promise, High-Point or other chip? If it uses a simlair chip as tested in the review the performance difference between those two cards will be very small.

I could not find the chip manufacturer on the website. However, the driver is from Silicon Image. Also, the text files that come with the driver mention a PCU-680 chip.

Hmmm... there was a RAID controller tested with the Silicon Image 0680 chip... but the performance was lower then the HighPoint Tech. The RAID controller with the same chip tested was the Dawicontrol DC-133 RAID.

However, the PIR133 is $30 cheaper. Decisions, decisions :)

I may purchase the PIR133 because I need it for an old Dell OptiPlex GX1 which has a 100MHz FSB. In this scenario, the faster and more expensive ATA/133 RAID adapters in the article may not perform any better.

Well then it would be a good choice... and those couple of % of speed don't matter that much.
