I'm having trouble with the quality of my summed mixes ITB. I know
this is a big debate and many people have gotten around the issue by
using the Dangerous 2bus, etc. And since I don't have an analog board
to sum them through, I'm wondering if a Masterlink is my solution.

Would going stereo out of my DAW via spdif to a Masterlink to help
overcome the summing/conversion quality loss I seem to be experiencing?
Or do I still need to run it through something analog?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

The spdif output is already summed.

From what I understand, the Masterlink is stereo in only. No mixing
capabilities.

Aren't you also comparing the analog circuitry after the D/A
conversion? It seems like that could be a significant effect to.

Yes, but I didn't want to get down to circuitry. Think of "D/A
converter" as a black box with a digital gozinta and an analog gozouta
and you'll understand what I meant. Changing converter chips and analog
components is the sort of thing that Jim Williams of Audio Upgrades
does for fun and profit. I wouldn't suggest (particularly without
knowing what he's using as a computer audio interface) that he start
modifying it when he can't quite settle on a good mix while he's
working on it.
