I am wanting to sign up for AT&T's Uverse. However, they insist that I must purchase their proprietary modem. Is this true? Why can I not purchase a DSL router/modem of my own choice?

Cheers.

You can, provided it's AT&T compatible - but you'll still have to buy the AT&T modem otherwise they won't accept you as a subscriber. I can't believe you have to pay for it though. In the UK all our ISPs supply their equipment free.

Thanks for the reply. I figured I would have to purchase their equipment. When it comes I will see what kind of security it has. May try to hook my Belkin router to it and run everything through the Belkin if that is possible -- have to research to see if my Belkin N+ wireless router will work. Thanks again.
