Canadians, this is the day..........

.....and I'm two months from my 18th birthday, F@#^!

Ok to be serious though, this is a truly nervous and hard time, IMO.
While I don't mind having Layton, Martin or Duceppe as PM (although that last one, I ponder just how he can be a PM for Canada after he seperates Quebec  ), I just cannot fathom how a Canadian would allow Harper in place. That homophobic biliguilism destroyer will ruin Canada's diversity and reputation for being so open.

I admit I'm really clueless in general about politicsbut this week I've seen and heard so much. Here's how I perceive the parties at the moment:

-Liberals: Ok, I'd rather have Martin over Harper any day. Although people certainly are not as supportive of the Liberals as before, Martin has presented a nice plan for health care and he does respect Quebec, being from there and speaking Quebecer, so I could definitely be ok with him in place. I do wish he would live up to his plan, because if so, we would finally see a difference in our third rate Health care system.

-Conservatives: As far as I am concerned, people supporting Harper are those generally homophobic or with homophobic tendencies (Harper called the gay marriage right that slipped temporarily IIRC, as a "scandal that we will make sure not to see happen again", refering to it and child porn, heard him yesterday), those who would risk Canada's reputation as a peaceful country and potentially make it more of a target for terrorism, those who will promote a guy who will make the French language a secondary language with little importance and who will shush Quebec's voice, and who simply don't promote some actual freedom rights. If you're a conservative and take offense, well, since elections are to vote for someone you want to represent you (save for the "I don't give a hoot who I'm voting for" vote kind), and Harper is all those things, well then you're pretty much supporting such actions.
Plus Harper doesn't even speak French! What's a PM to do in the Parliament representing Canada when the French language represents Canada as much as the English language?!

-NDP: I admit Layton's an interesting guy. He speaks French as well as English, and has a new plan all in all. What worried me was how he voiced his support for decriminalizing marjuana. While I'm ok with that move, it's the fact it was said out loud that makes me fear they might go further than that. But even with that, if the NDP ever possibly turned out the winners, I'd be fine with it.

-Bloc Québecois: Well, we all know why they're here. And it frankly still to this day doesn't make sense, IMO, to call your party a Province's inhabitants. Imagine the Ontarian Bloc. Sounds pretty weird when you're going to represent Canada, in all fairness. But then again Americans support democracy yet most here detest democrats despite the fact their party name is in all fairness, the basis of what all Americans believe in.
They should all just stop this weird naming and start coming up with special more cool names than basic if not confusing ones!
Back to topic though, if it hadn't been for the real master plan of the Bloc Québecois, I would support it anyday. It's a party that represents Quebec's voice above all, something desperately needed IMO. It also knows the problems of Canada's most socialistic province, which are basically Healthcare.

All in all, I wish today people know what they're doing. Dear God please do the right thing people. I am truly worried that the Conservatives might win.
Please people, go do the right vote IMO, which is for anyone except the Conservatives! If they win, IMO it will be a disaster. Us Quebecers will get slammed badly, and we'll be taking a stand back on several rights. Heck, I even fear anti-smoking laws may take a hit.

Whatever party that wins, aside Conservatives, I do hope they will strengthen ties with the USA though. I know that aside from Harper, none of the parties really support Bush, but I do think they should help out in aid and keep the economy with the US rolling.
Besides, you don't have to be a Conservative or pro-Conservative to support this war. I'm one who falls under such category.

Well, I've done some ranting here, personal to heart especially, but such is how I think the elections are. It's a very tight time for Canadians, and the dead heat is truly HEATING. Last I checked, polls showed Liberals winning by 0.8%. God knows what will happen now.

I'd like to hear from my fellow Canadians. Zpyrd, Silverpig and all the others, who will you guys vote for and why?

Why do Canadians pronounce it "aboot"?

Maybe it's from being a bit high, but that's the funniest random thing I've seen today LOL!

I think we took it from merging British and American. Brits say "About" almost like Aboot.

What will be the difference with the one party winning over the others with regard to international relationships?

Frankly, given the size and the economic importance of Canada, I think this country is rather absent in the international arena, but then again maybe I am not paying enough attention to it.

Often it's the French in Canada that will be heard more. Charles de Gaulle made Quebec heard accross the French countries like France, for example.

But you are right, Canada isn't heard a lot. Probably because lately a country is heard a lot if it participates in the politics currently plaguing the world, and Canada really doesn't have a lot to say lately or do, in Iraq or on it. At least not compared to Spain, Saudi Arabia, Russia, etc. I'd say lately we only hear countries when they have something happening regarding terrorism and the war in Iraq.

I'm not with you on that one Eden.

We could hear a lot more of Canada in UN missions for example. Remember the role Norway played in the Israeli-Palestian conflict back in the 90's?

I hope with you that it will remain quiet on the Canada domestic front with regard to the war on terror but surely there are other ways to play a more prominent role in international politics.

I wasn't affirming any fact or argument btw, I dunno why you took it that way, I was only proposing a possible reason why we aren't hearing much about Canada lately in international affairs. Since lately it seems like you need to talk about politics and terrorism to appear on Al-Jazeera and CNN, Canada isn't heard that much.

I do know recently my aunt's trip from the Health Government was cancelled, and she was supposed to be on some reunion in Thailand regarding AIDS. All of this often happens under wings.

I'm not arguing either  but I do not find your possible reason a good or plausable explanation for the lack of news on Canada and Canadians in the world.

I voted for Quebec to be flooded under 40 feet of water. I want them to build a big wall around the whole area and then just flood it next spring.

Simple reason it would lead to a very large debat with most here. That due to number of eng speaking people i would be simply overflow either i right or wrong.

If you had the time to read it i hope you learn few thing about the liberal party view on Quebec.

i need to change useur name.

Reply to juin

I did read it and I bet you not many would catch it here since there aren't any I know from Quebec, and not many Canadians here at the moment.

Although I realize that the Liberal party didn't quite treat Quebec right, I wasn't stating my support for them, but rather in general to any party other than the Conservative party. Because THEY would not just be ignorant to the economy in Quebec, but they would be out to destroy the culture and French language itself. Harper wants Air Canada to stop being bilingual. We don't have QuebecAir now do we? So how do we fly in an airline representing the country where we have around 10 million or more speaking French and it won't support that?

Either way, Martin can fall back now on NDPs and if they accept the alliance, they won't need to accord anything with Conservatives to pass laws, ya know? And if NDPs refuse, Martin can always try to make truce with Duceppe. I think the last thing Liberals want is talk to Harper and make a team. I'm not too worried here really. And either Liberals or NDPs are set to give more rights in general, because of their more leftist attitude.

Now I do hope Martin starts making a difference here. At least, from his speech on the 27th during his cross-country he talked in plain Quebecer about supporting Quebec more. Let's just hope that wasn't political washing.

A little explaination about Canada constituion on minority gour.

The leading party have deal a approving vote from a or many party that combine they have more that 155 seat.
In case that not possible the 2 largest party will try with a others or many party to have combine 155 seat or more.
This is not a coalition like you see in Isreal it just a approving vote. Also the chamber will go with a confident vote.In case that is still not possible a others election will be done.

SO in real life

135 liberal
99 PCC
54 BQ
19 NPD
1 indp

Possible alliance

Liberal NDP indepantdant
Bloc PCC NDP
PCC liberal
liberal Bloc

In Bloc press conference this morning Bloc leader have say it have receive a call from Paul Martin.

i need to change useur name.
