Desktop Wired Connection Issues

hey guys, i have never had my pc wired with an ethernet cable. but I am in college and i brought my pc down. I went to connect the ethernet cable to the back of my pc, the orange light illuminates but i dont get connected. the ethernet cable connects my macbook and ps3 fine to the internet here at school but for some reason my pc wont connect. can someone help?

What do you get when you type ipconfig in the command prompt box?

Check in the device manager under network adapters to see if the Ethernet adapter has a driver and says that it is working properly. If so, go into the network control panel and make sure that it is set to automatically obtain an IP address. Look under change adapter settings, right click properties for the LAN adapter, highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 and hit the properties button to get to the configuration.
