Hello, I live in UK and my Dad is just about to go to America and offered to buy anything in Frys near to where he is staying. Ive been trying to think of something that I could get cheaply and use to upgrade, My HDD is the only thing so far:

AXP 2000+
MSI 745 Ultra
256mb PC2700 (enough for win98SE)
Gainward GF4 Ti4200 Golden Edition
Onboard Sound (fine for my needs)
Teac CD-ROM
Lite-On CD-RW 12x10x32
20Gb Quantum Fireball 5400Rpm (quite slow I Think)

So, I dont need that much storage, so I was thinking of getting a Maxtor 30Gb 7200Rpm HDD with 2Mb of cache, perhaps I might upgrade to 40Gb. Do you think this is a good idea?

You would certainly benefit from a faster drive. A 40GB Maxtor D740X is a very fast, quiet and affordable solution.

Yeah it is a good idea to get another drive...a 7200rpm drive with ATA100 or ATA133 will be much faster then your current HD. And all your other components are already pretty fast.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dimms when I turn it on

Yep. Thats why i recommended the 400JB, the smallest capacity with the 8mb buffer so its the cheapest.

And here it is, you can get it at newwegg for $89.
